Abstract

Since mankind came into modern civilization, they have developed the thought of science and progressivism, which has completely transformed the direction of human civilization. Undoubtedly, different cultural tendencies lead to development paths of civilizations. The rationalist thought shaped by ancient Greek culture and the contract based social order formed by the ancient Hebrew have laid the foundation for the whole western civilization and provided soil for the contemporary popular scientific progressive thought. At the same time, China began its modern civilization by learning from the West after entering modern times. The traditional Chinese thought of “benevolence” did not open up the evolution path of modern civilization and science due to the limitations of equal and undifferentiated love and the social order based on blood relationships. Although China has basically caught up with the average level of the West in economy and science and technology over the past four decades, and has even become the world’s second largest economy in terms of total economic output, we have not made any breakthrough in the imagination and definition of future civilization as well as in the thinking about the development of civilization after entering the digital age.
