Abstract

Sustainable socio-economic development of small and medium business is a significant structural part of any country’s economy, its basis and the key elements of the mechanism of competitiveness provision. Its achievement should be viewed from the position of resource-oriented approach. Here we aim to do the following: (1) view historical development of resource-based approach; (2) substantiate priority of application of resource-based approach in the issues of socio-economic development of subjects of SME; (3) determine directions of socio-economic development of Russian SME in the context of application of resource-based approach. The survey was based on a complex and comparative analysis of the main theoretical models of resource-based approach and possibilities and potential of resource-based approach for improvement of socio-economic position of SME in Russia. The findings confirmed that resource-based approach might be successfully applied for state support for activities of SME, which allows providing maximal socio-economic effectiveness of using the region’s existing resources.
