Abstract

In four verses, Juhan Liiv describes the economic life of the homeless. Lennart Meri’s view is that education is the most effective way to reduce social inequality and that economic reform implies a redistribution of assets. Joakim Puhk warns that radical changes are dangerous, especially in times of crisis. For Rainer Kattel, innovation is a political decision. For Erik Terk: “The problem of the Estonian economy is not so much a lack of innovation, but rather a poor position in international value creation chains”. Andrus Kivirähk writes about work ethics, about working when not in the mood. Meelis Kitsing writes about Estonia’s digitalisation. The view of Raul Eamets is that the convergence of technologies will increase in value. Eduard Vilde explains what essential qualities are needed to do business. For Urmas Varblane, continuous learning is the basis of the success of the Estonian economy, while for the State the most important things are a strategic vision and adaptability. For Kadri Ukrainski, to improve a country’s competitiveness, people with doctorate degrees need to be better integrated into companies and state institutions. Kalev Kukk explains that, when Estonia gained independence in 1991, all political forces recognised the need for openness and liberalism.
