Abstract

The chapter outlines the consequences of Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February 2022 on the energy market with a focus on Central and Eastern European countries. The influence of energy prices on the competitiveness of the economy is illustrated with examples from chemicals and chemical products manufacturing, as well as paper and paper products manufacturing.Additionally, the chapter discusses the characteristics of changes occurring as part of the transition towards renewable energy sources and their participation in the energy mixes of Central and Eastern European countries. The chapter also reviews actions aimed at mitigating the consequences of the increase in energy prices, with particular reference to the solutions in Poland.
