The EURO and the Competitiveness of Agglomerations What Does the Single Currency Add?

Abstract

Little economic analysis has been done on the micro-spatial effects of the introduction of the single currency, the EURO. One reason for this lacuna is given by Bröcker (1998: 125). Summarising his review of the literature on integration and convergence, he surmises that it is not at all clear that the introduction of a common currency should contribute importantly to spatial convergence, let alone impact on locational attractors.
