Abstract

En el Capítulo 4, Luis Felipe Zegarra analiza la política monetaria del Banco Central entre 1939 y 1945. En este periodo, el banco central no tenía el compromiso de mantener fijo el tipo de cambio y, por lo tanto, la oferta de dinero era exógena. En los treinta, el Banco Central había financiado parte del gasto público. Entre 1939 y 1945, el Banco Central continuó financiando las necesidades del tesoro público. La expansión de la base monetaria llevó a un aumento de la liquidez. Con la fuerte expansión de la liquidez y el lento crecimiento del PBI real, los precios siguieron una tendencia creciente, a pesar de la caída en la velocidad de circulación del dinero.
