Abstract

In a socialist economy, enterprises were designed to be deeply socially responsible, far more so than under capitalismCapitalism , because the public owned all firms, the people’s tribunes (the Communist PartyCommunist Party apparatus) supervised them, and their managers operated outside any nexus of markets for capital, materials, and clients.
