Abstract

It is estimated that investments in nature-based solutions (NBS) need to increase four-fold by 2050 if the world is to meet various climate change, biodiversity, and land degradation targets. This chapter will first discuss in-depth the financing gap of NBS before discussing how innovative finance can close this gap for NBS. The chapter will then discuss the various sources of finance that can scale up and mainstream NBS. Following this, the chapter will review the various barriers to financing NBS before describing the role of governments in removing these barriers. Finally, the chapter will discuss the benefits to the private sector in participating in NBS.
