Abstract

The Qur’an is a document the core of which constitutes a meta-framework of rules (institutions) and the compliance with which assures humans a life of peace, security, and economic prosperity. The Qur’an addresses the whole of humanity and is temporally and spatially immutable. The meta-framework is therefore immutable as well. The implementation of this framework by the Messenger (sawa) in Medina constitutes an archetype model the core of which corresponds to the rules prescribed by the meta-framework. Each generation is to study, understand, and internalize the meta-framework and envision a model that, while corresponding to the archetype model, is implemented within the context of that generation. Far from being a replica of an idealized historical society, implementation of such a model of rule compliance in contemporary societies can lead to economic and human progress.
