Abstract

This case study delves into the emergency remote learning challenges faced by Hope & Joy Society for Underprivilege’s (HAJSU), an NGO in Varanasi, during the COVID-19 pandemic. It explores the digital disparities hindering underprivileged students’ access to education, particularly due to a lack of smartphones and stable internet connections. Post-pandemic challenges upon returning to offline classes are also examined, alongside remedial strategies adopted by HAJSU. Despite obstacles, the study identifies positive outcomes like improved access to education and learning continuity. Strategic outreach programs, including community smartphone utilization, are highlighted as innovative solutions. The conclusion emphasizes the broader implications for sustainable education access and the need for adaptive strategies to address digital disparities, particularly for marginalized populations. Insights from the study offer valuable lessons for similar contexts globally, emphasizing the importance of inclusive educational policies and community engagement.
