Abstract

New technologies and social media significantly impact on the communication between government and citizens. This study examines the factors that affect the adoption of new technologies with an emphasis on block chain and of social media in Greek public administration. A mixed research approach with both qualitative and quantitative methods was employed through the distribution of questionnaires to 336 public sector employees and the implementation of 99 structured interviews. Findings showed that service quality, ease of use and information quality have a major impact on the adoption of block chain technologies in the public sector. Qualitative research revealed that there is a critical need for digital skills as well as for increasing citizens’ confidence in the announcements made by public institutions at their social media.
