Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is considered one of the most severe economic and social crises. Social distancing, self-isolation, and travel restrictions have caused a reduced workforce across all economic sectors and many jobs to be lost. In this chapter we provide at first a general analysis of the sentiment of the European economic system. The impact of COVID-19 on the confidence level is explored. In particular, we find the existence of a negative relationship between the extent of the pandemic crisis and the change in confidence. Since Italy represents a delicate geographical terrain of studies at the time of the crisis by COVID-19, we concentrate our attention on the entrepreneurial and strategic orientation taken by Italian family SMEs.
