Abstract

On Friday, April 10, 2015, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, prime minister and chairman of the Progressive Party, gave an opening speech at his party’s convention that stunned the nation. Gunnlaugsson had turned 40 just a month before. He had a ministerial, almost religious delivery and a deep, thundering voice that rendered him an air of seniority. The speech quickly formed into a passionate attack on the “vulture” hedge funds controlling the estates of the three fallen banks.
