Abstract

ING Direct seems a small coffee shop in New York, not caring too much about attracting customers walking by. Looks deceive however. The billboard promoting coffee is accompanied by the current checking account interest rate. ING Direct is an internet bank, active in nine countries with 145 billion US dollars or 40% of ING total entrusted funds. Making the most of deregulation, advances in information technology and changing customer preferences, ING Direct has developed a successful business model to take full advantage of these changes.
