The Guarantee System in France

Abstract

Credit guarantee institutions in France have a long history tied to SME trade associations. The current structure stems from the banking law of 24 January 1984, which: regards credit guarantee institutions as commercial companies; places credit guarantee institutions among financial institutions, subject to a specific discipline — that is, to prudential regulations covering the activities of credit intermediaries.
