Abstract

In chapters 2 and 3, the historical and institutional development of China and India’s banking frameworks were discussed. The second part of this book analyzes the interaction between the existing banking institutions and three critical sectors of the financial services industry. In this chapter I will analyze the relationship between the banking system and the development of capital markets in China and India. The focus of this chapter will be on efforts to improve corporate governance, largely with a focus on its role in the development of equity markets.
