Abstract

How do you try and explain India in a single chapter? Here is a country of more than a billion people, with 18 major languages, 1,600 minor languages and dialects, umpteen castes and sub castes, 50 or so recognized tribes, and 6 ethnic groups. India is the world s largest producer of milk, has the largest number of post offices, the world’s largest railway network, the second largest pool of technically trained manpower, the largest number of students graduating from universities every year and not forgetting, the world’s largest democracy, which can proudly boast of a fully electronic voting system developed totally indigenously.
