Abstract

So after chapters of strange science and exotic explanations of the mundane what do you need to prepare yourself for here? This chapter is both less speculative and more controversial. Just like previous chapters I’m going to show you scenarios you’ll recognise but tell you there’s more going on than meets the eye. The difference is that I’m not going to be uncovering any new forms of behaviour here; I’m going to be talking about the old familiar kind. I’m going to show you a situation that’s considered by many to be simply ‘good business’ and ask you to believe that it’s an unhealthy state of affairs that’s undermining your business. It may be a struggle to accept that what I’m describing here happens in your business. I’ll show you the worst-case scenario and you can judge how much of it applies to your company. Even so, it might be an uncomfortable experience from time to time, so I’ll need to ask for your patience and open-mindedness.
