Abstract

You have spotted a window of opportunity, you have done your research, devised a business plan and now you need some financing. Most large companies will have an existing global arrangement with a bank or group of banks, but smaller investors may not. One possibility then is a local bank in Asia, but very few Asian banks are involved in banking alone and most are still controlled by a majority shareholder. This makes them very different from banks in the United States, Australia and Europe. It also makes them potentially quite dangerous. Table 18.1 gives a brief view of the main local banks in Asia.
