Abstract

When we started to write this book, we both thought that the recent development of Internet technology and the effects that it could have on business and other aspects of society was an interesting area, well worth an in-depth study. However, as the book proceeded and we read more and more about this area in newspapers and magazines, and had new experiences as consultants in the field of management issues related to information technology (IT), we came to the conclusion that it could have even more serious effects than we had at first imagined. We have encountered a number of implications and possibilities that have the power to change much more than some limited parts of society. After reading this book, we hope that readers will agree with our conclusions and concerns, and will be ready to meet some of the challenges of this new marketplace and medium for the transfer of information.
