Abstract

The relationship encompassing technology, employment and the environment is very complex. This is illustrated in Figure 5.1 (adapted from Markandya 1995). The preceding chapter provided an aggregate-level analysis of the relationship between employment and technological change following the Green Revolution. The primary focus was on the prospects for the crop sector providing employment to the growing labour force and labour transfer from agricultural to non-agricultural sectors and trends in agricultural and non-agricultural wages.
