Welfare State Models in Comparative Research: Do the Models Describe the Reality?

In: Comparative Welfare Systems

Author

  • Thomas Boje

Abstract

During recent decades the comparative approach has been ever more dominant in analyses of social systems. Comparative research methods have particularly been popular in studies of welfare state regimes, and several alternative models have been constructed to explain why national systems differ and how to classify the diverse systems. The reasons for this growing interest in comparative studies and in making typologies of welfare systems are many and differ widely.
