Abstract

This chapter seeks to examine the vision which inspired Keynes in putting forward his design for the postwar world which was eventually finalised at Bretton Woods. It asks two specific questions: (1) Was that vision adequate to the circumstances of the time from the standpoint of both developed and developing countries? (2) How well has the developing world been served by the structure of institutions that eventually emerged at Bretton Woods?
