Abstract

The Keynesian vision for the Bretton Woods institutions has not survived. First, the vision was greatly diluted in its actual implementation — as the IMF, the World Bank and GATT emerged through several compromises with the Realpolitik of the time. And, second, the original role of the Bretton Woods institutions has changed beyond recognition in the last five decades of their operation.
