Abstract

In early 1983, the concrete pipe manufacturing company, Cawoods Concrete Products Ltd, was being threatened with closure. Its parent company, Cawoods Holdings, had just merged with Redland and there was a conflict of interest with a Redland subsidiary. The Cawoods subsidiary had been put up for sale but there were no takers — the company was only just moving back into the black after a number of poor years.
