Abstract

For several decades George A. Miller has been concerned with an astounding variety of MLM issues, such as the structure and function of the mental lexicon as a dynamic database, the parallels between syntactic and semantic relations, and the application of formal-language theory to the study of natural language. His efforts, along with those of Philip N. Johnson-Laird, have generated a cornucopia of conclusions and speculations pertinent to the modelling of meaning, especially about the possibility that linguistic knowledge can be described in terms of ‘associations between words and percepts’.1
