Abstract

Various aspects of wage determination and employment patterns have already been discussed in previous chapters. In particular, Chapter 6 has commented on some of the pressures underlying wage demands in an inflationary climate. The previous chapter briefly discussed not only the regional policy aspects of employment but also gave some details of employment by size of firm. The present chapter falls into two main parts; first a general discussion of employment patterns in the United Kingdom, followed by sections on trade unions and collective bargaining, wage determination, and the relative importance of capital and labour.
