What Cole Really Meant

Abstract

Life in midpassage is too filled with demands and routines to permit much personal reflection. One is conscious that the years are ticking by; that the children are mushrooming; that parents and other older friends are now gone, or have themselves become dependent; that sooner than expected the sharp, cutting edge of one’s own psyche has been slightly dulled by time and fate; and that the great questions of purpose and meaning of life remain as intractable as ever.
