Abstract

The overriding message of this book has been that people have the potential to make a big difference to the performance of the organization. However, people are complex and so are jobs and managing this interaction successfully is no easy matter. There are some current paradoxes that need to be resolved. Human Resource departments are being slimmed down; managers are spending tiny fractions of their time on the development of themselves and others; boards are only slowly recognizing the need for objective assessment and development at their own level and people are still not figuring strongly enough in the valuation of the assets of a business.
