Abstract

Occasionally, a radio at Opel Antwerp [2] might play’ something better change’, a song released by The Stranglers in the 1980s. Managers at the plant might turn down the volume, as the punk band scream their message to the audience. Yet, those managers should be sympathetic to the theme of the song. As Opel Antwerp demonstrated, it was an enthusiastic pupil of the lean production prophets, advocating change and a new way of organising car assembly.
