Abstract

The financial crisis in Argentina exploded in March 1980 with the failure of the country’s main private bank, the Banco de Intercambio Regional. By the middle of 1982, sixty-eight banks and financial institutions had failed, amongst which were the Banco de los Andes, the Banco Oddone and the Banco International, the third, seventh and ninth banks respectively in the country (Feldman, 1983).
