Abstract

In the last 40 years, a lot of countries have tried to promote their national development by forming economic communities or regional groups. They built integrated communities in order to play their part in the international system as one unit. In addition to the economic aspect, political reasons are of considerable significance. For many of the new regional groups the European Community (EC) seems to have become a model for regional economic Cooperation because of the high increase of the intra-regional trade in the EC after its formation.
