Abstract

The world is divided into about 185 independent countries— the exact number depends on the meaning of ‘independent’ — and most of these belong to one or more treaty organisations which regulate or promote trade. The extent and implications of these organisations are often overlooked and they are given prominence in this handbook to assist those who conduct business in the areas covered.
