Abstract

The Gulf countries are at the threshold of a new economic era characterized by reduced dependence on oil revenues, diversification of the economic structure, rationalization of public expenditures, wider involvement of the private sector, enhancement of local skills and products and greater emphasis of regional co-operation. While Gulf countries may differ in their overall economic performance, they are basically at comparable stages of development. They also have similar resource and structural base and share common future strategic outlook.
