Abstract

The subject matter of this chapter, the Israeli kibbutz, represents a more comprehensive communal form of self-manged organisation than those discussed in the preceding chapters. In this chapter we hope that we can: (i) show that comprehensive communalism coupled with self-management is viable; (ii) point to some historical factors which gave birth to this type of socio-economic organisation and influenced its development; (iii) analyse its economic functioning and some of its implications.
