Abstract

Few societies in the western world have lived through such brusque changes in the past two decades, or such drastic reorientations in domestic policy, as has Chile. During this period the Chilean economy has been the laboratory for various development models, providing observers with innumerable lessons for the future. In the midst of these changes, beginning in the 1960s, there were various degrees of effort to build a system of broad participation, including not only political participation but worker involvement in productie and commercial enterprises.
