Trans-National Corporations and Basic Needs

Abstract

The role of the trans-national corporation (TNC) in development is already large and is of growing importance, and policies have to be evolved that enable governments willing to admit it to harness its potential for the benefit of the development effort. We start with the premise that a fundamental objective of development is to meet the basic needs of the billion or so poor people in the world, that some governments are prepared to commit themselves seriously to giving high priority to this objective, and that they wish to explore the role of TNCs in such an approach.
