Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review the Brazilian experience with the crawling peg. The first part deals with the relevant historical facts, discussing the introduction and the main features of the Brazilian exchange rate regime. In the second part I proceed critically to evaluate the experiment, emphasising successes and failures. The last section contains a discussion of the alternatives suggested and the main conclusions arising from the analysis in the paper.1
