Abstract

President Tito often claimed that the communist approach had enabled the Yugoslav leadership completely to resolve the national problems of the country (D 17.10.72). For this reason, a separate Council of Nations was abolished as early as 1953 (JP 67, p. 145). In fact the virulent nationalisms in Yugoslavia had only been pushed underground and erupted as soon as the political controls were somewhat relaxed in the mid-1960s.
