Abstract

The 1970s have seen the growth of substantial financial centres in Asia, notably in Singapore and Hong Kong, and more recently in the Philippines. The main purpose of this development has been to tap the sources of funds and the outlets in the region, and this has coincided with extremely rapid economic growth in the area as a whole, with South-east Asia being one of the world’s fastest growing regions.
