Abstract

The Government White Paper Financial Services in the United Kingdom — a new framework for investor protection defines ‘investments’ in three principal categories: (i) securities, including shares and debentures, including certificates of deposit; units in unit trusts; Government, local authority and nationalised industry stock; warrants, options and similar rights; mortgage-based paper of the type extensively traded under a variety of female (and one or two male) nicknames in the United States (for example Ginnie and Fannie Mae); (ii) financial and commodity futures and options contracts including comparable deferred delivery contracts; (iii) participatory rights in other forms of property (for example plantations and bloodstock).
