Diagnosing the Wider Needs

Abstract

There is no established method of diagnosing the wider company and individual development needs because the work is still new. The procedure I suggest starts with a self-assessment questionnaire followed by an interview. Whoever does the interviewing gets a quick and sufficiently accurate view of the needs of the company as well as the individual managers, and he can quickly set up some development exercises in line with the managers want. The arguments in favour of this approach are speed and manager cooperation while the self-assessment procedure is an unfreezing and a teaching device in its own right. More accurate training needs can be defined later, and the projects, or whatever is set in motion, reveal potential, or the lack of it, better than any formal assessments.
