Abstract

China’s economic achievement is remarkable in that its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the value of all goods and services produced in the economy, has grown from US$40 billion in 1949 to more than US$10 trillion (nominal exchange rate terms) and US$17.63 trillion (purchasing power parity, or PPP) in 2014.1 If the government’s targeted growth rate of 7 percent materializes, its economy will double in ten years. In terms of PPP, Chinas economy will approach US$34 trillion by 2024.
