Abstract

“Walways come back to ourselves, only better,” said Kailee, a transition veteran. She and I were talking on the phone. I had called her because I had hit a wall. She offered the remark as I wondered out loud, “What am I doing?” Her optimism and calm manner talked me off the ceiling that day. Kailee was no shrinking flower. She had transitioned twice, once when a miscarriage and other health problems forced her to rethink work, and a second time when she adopted a child as a single mom. I valued her advice and loved how much she believed in the process that I was going through.
