Abstract

Perhaps we should forget globalization and focus all our energy on regional economic and political integration? Isn’t a half a billion or sometimes even a billion and a half market of manufacturers and consumers big enough to make the most of economies of scale and at the same time not too big to be managed prudently? Isn’t a series of regional integrations a competitive alternative to globalization that includes everyone? Regional integration and the way it meshes with globalization, the third of the Great Issues for the Future — is it more of a threat or an opportunity?
