Abstract

Declarations of intent, statements of belief, policy announcements and other commitments to gender balance on boards come, as they must, from the leaders of companies and other organisations. Many of the most outspoken leaders on the women on boards subject have served, or still serve, as mentors on The Mentoring Foundation’s FTSE 100® Cross-Company Mentoring Programme. Their advocacy, and the invaluable contributions they make serving as Programme mentors, have helped to shape the zeitgeist and given the impression that if women want to share the reins of power, in the business world at least, they are pushing at an open door.
