Abstract

The degree of responsibility an assistant takes on must be based, of course, on an exquisite command of the basics. Vijay Vashee, who played major roles at Microsoft as general manager of PowerPoint and Project, told me that when he hires his assistant he is looking for someone with “A history of paying attention to detail and doing the mundane well.” I love that phrase “doing the mundane well.” An exceptional executive assistant will not only execute the mundane with great proficiency but also elevate it to extraordinary levels.
