Abstract

Fig 7.1 Gert van Dijk In this chapter we examine how a tradition of wisdom contributes to the professional development of Gert van Dijk (1960), medical analyst, philosopher and ethicist, and show how it helps him to deal with complexity, work overload and integrity issues. Gert explains how the wisdom of Theravada Buddhism guides the way he thinks, acts and reflects in his profession. He also tells us how he handles ethical dilemmas, an integral and deeply challenging aspect of his job.
