Abstract

Operational analytics is nothing more than an applied form of other, generalized forms of analytics. All the chapters described in part III directly utilize the same descriptive and predictive analytics discussed in parts I and II, and applies them to functional operations of any organization. In most cases, however, the analytics being utilized in operations are not exclusively one type of calculation, as discussed in other chapters—they tend to incorporate one or more types of analysis into a more complex model that describes the nature of the relationship between an organizations’ operations and the environment in which that organization operates. So, many of the potential direction for research related to operational analytics focuses on the individual types of analytics being utilized, but on how to best use each, and how to integrate them into cohesive applications.
