The cradle of civilization on the Indian subcontinent, the Indus Valley Civilization dates back to 5000 BCE. Excavations done during the 1920s revealed the great cities of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, located in present-day Pakistan and Lothal near Ahmedabad, India.
